REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2022
Introduction
Following a challenging year in 2021, 2022 was a successful year for the Fund although meetings of the trustees (5 in all) continued to be held through the medium of Zoom. Dafydd Hampson-Jones retired as Treasurer, after six years in post, but agreed to continue as a trustee and to oversee the Fund’s investments. Heledd Jones was welcomed as a trustee and was appointed Treasurer in his place. Elin Maher, National Director of RhAG was welcomed to our meetings.
More applications were received and the total value of grants awarded reached a record level. A successful Dinner was held with Professor Mererid Hopwood as guest speaker. In order to promote the Fund, new Welsh medium nursery groups and primary schools were contacted as well as the regional education consortia and governors’ networks. A video was prepared, in Welsh and English, which was placed on our website and social networking sites and changes were made to our website.
Applications
Consideration was given to 30 applications during the year. Four applications were refused and 5 applications were withdrawn. The following were successful:

Ysgol Gynradd Pen Barras Resources £400
The grants totalled £7,434 (2021 - £4,253). Another four applications were received which were considered in January 2023.
It is a condition of grant aid that the body receiving a grant submits a report, which refers to the Fund’s contribution, to its local “papur bro”. In addition, the Fund receives a report, after a year, on the outcome of the grant. The reports received are very encouraging (see our website) and confirm that the Fund succeeds in making a difference.
Contributions
Following the previous year’s appeal, regular contributions were received of £8,510 (2021 - £6,160) and single contributions of £7,760 (2021 - £14,725) which included contributions of £1,500.60 (including £384 in 2023) in memory of Branwen Mathias. £4,247 (2021 - £3,455) was received through Gift Aid. In addition, a surplus of £986 was made on the Dinner.
The trustees are immensely grateful to all who contributed to the Fund and to all who supported the Dinner. Hefin and Catrin Mathias were thanked for the contributions in memory of their daughter, Branwen.

2. ANNUAL REPORT 2019
1. Introduction
2019 was a notable year in the history of the Fund from the standpoint of activity, the number of applications and the total value of grants awarded. Five ordinary meetings of the trustees were held during the year. In addition, some decisions were made through consultation by email.
2. Applications
Consideration was given to 32 applications during the year. Two applications were deferred, five were refused (either inappropriate or for lack of information) and the following were successful:
Cylch Meithrin Pentrebaen £600 Marketing
Cylch Meithrin Dol y Bont (Dinas Mawddwy) £250 Educational signage
Cylch Meithrin Hermon (Penfro) £175 Resources

Cylch Meithrin Bwcle £ 345 Marketing
Cylch Ti a Fi Llangeitho £125.22 Resources
Cylch Meithrin Bodawen £200 Marketing
The total value of grants awarded was £6595.22 (2018 - £4,050). It is now a condition of grant aid that the receiver of a grant submits a report to its local “papur bro” referring to the Fund’s contribution and we are aware such reports have appeared in Y Barcud, Y Bedol, Y Blewyn Glas, Y Cardi Bach, Y Dinesydd and the Bulletin of the Voluntary Organisations in Torfaen. In addition, a report is requested a year later as to the outcome of the grant aid. The reports received are very encouraging (as shown in the annex) and confirm the Fund is succeeding in making a difference.
3. Contributions
Once again, the friends of the Fund have been generous in their support during the year, contributing £3791 (2018 - £3990). We gratefully acknowledge their support. In addition, the autumn Dinner made a profit which, including gifts made on the night, totalled £2042. However, our income, this year, was less than the total value of the grants awarded. Accordingly, we wish to increase the number of contributors and seek support from companies in Wales.
4. Raising the profile of the Fund
It was decided to trial a scheme to encourage applications to the Fund from Ti a Fi/ Meithrin groups and Welsh medium Primary Schools in specific areas. We began with Neath Port Talbot and Monmouth and attracted one application from a primary school in one county and one from a Meithrin group in the other. This was followed in Merthyr Tudful, Cynon Valley and the Tregaron area which attracted an application from a Meithrin group in the latter. We then implemented the scheme in the remainder of the Rhondda Cynon Taf area and Bridgend and attracted one application from a primary school in the latter area. On the whole, the response was disappointing.
Our leaflets were distributed at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff. A successful meeting was held at the National Eisteddfod at Llanrwst when Nic Parry questioned Aled Roberts (The Welsh Language Commissioner). That was followed by a very successful Dinner, in October, at Radyr Golf Club, which was addressed by Guto Harri. Our website was reviewed and updated (www.cronfaglyndwr.cymru) and reports of the above events were added. We met officers of Mudiad Meithrin to discuss their SAS scheme (Establish and Move on). A representative attended the Welsh Language Cross Party Group in the Senedd and we responded to the “Consultation – A Draft Curriculum for Wales 2022” noting, in particular, the abs
ence of specific references to the history and culture of Wales.

Grants that make a difference
Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw
"The resources purchased from the Glyndwr Fund grant were used to market the school in the local community. The pamphlets were distributed in the local area. The large PVC banners were placed in front of the school to make sure the locals who walked by knew we were opening as a new school for all ages.
The school had initially received 11 applications from nursery and primary age children to join in September 2022. Following our marketing processes we have 23 pupils by now, with 7 new arrivals in January which will take numbers to 30. In addition, almost all new parents have shown an interest in learning Welsh to be able to help their children."
”
“Defnyddiwyd yr adnoddau a brynwyd o grant Cronfa Glyndwr i farchnata'r ysgol yn y gymuned leol. Dosbarthwyd y pamffledi yn yr ardal leol. Gosodwyd y baneri PVC mawr o flaen yr ysgol i wneud yn siŵr bod y bobl leol a gerddodd heibio yn gwybod ein bod yn agor fel ysgol newydd i bob oed.
I ddechrau roedd yr ysgol wedi derbyn 11 cais gan blant oed meithrin a chynradd i ymuno ym Medi 2022. Yn dilyn ein prosesau marchnata mae 23 disgybl gyda ni erbyn nawr, gyda 7 newydd yn ymuno yn Ionawr a fydd yn cymryd niferoedd I 30. Yn ogystal, mae bron pob rhiant newydd wedi dangos diddordeb mewn dysgu Cymraeg er mwyn gallu helpu eu plant.”
Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Dewi Sant
"Ysgol Meithrin Cylch Ysgol Dewi Sant wants to thank Glyndŵr Fund for the grant of £400 towards promoting our service.
The grant has enabled us to produce leaflets, Facebook ads and order banners.
The marketing campaign has been successful and today we have 40 young children aged between 2 and 4 on our register and have only been open since September 2020"
We have received a number of requests directly from the marketing campaign, which follows recommendations from customers, and along with the District's new location, this has attracted an increase of around 80% in enquiries about our service.
We have posted an article in our local Local Paper – The Waterfront – to promote the Glyndŵr Fund Roundtable.
Thank you again for your support, we are very grateful.
“Mae Cylch Meithrin Ysgol Dewi Sant eisiau diolch i Cronfa Glyndŵr am y grant o £400 tuag at hyrwyddo ein gwasanaeth.
Mae’r grant wedi ein galluogi ni i gynhyrchu taflenni, hysbysebion Facebook ac archebu banneri.
Mae’r ymgyrch marchnata wedi bod yn llwyddianus ac erbyn heddiw mae gennym 40 o blant bach rhwng 2 a 4 oed ar ein cofrestr ac rydym ond wedi bod ar agor ers Medi 2020.
Rydym wedi derbyn nifer o geisiadau yn uniongyrchol o’r ymgyrch marchnata, sydd yn dilyn i argymhellion gan gwsmeriaid, ac ynghyd a lleoliad newydd y Cylch, mae hyn wedi denu cynnydd o oddeutu 80% yn ymholiadau am ein gwasanaeth.
Rydym wedi gosod erthygl yn ein Papur Bro leol – Y Glannau - i hyrwyddo’r Cylch a Gwaith Cronfa Glyndŵr.
Diolch eto am eich cefnogaeth, rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn.”
Cylch Meithrin Trelech
"Since we were successful in applying for the grant and being able to buy the resources and do the marketing, we have been able to attract six new children to the Cylch which is good progress in such a rural area. 11 children have remained constantly on our books and we aim to increase the number this year again, while using the resources when new families move to the area.
lIt is interesting to note that we have seen a number of families moving to the area during the time of the pandemic, many of whom are indigenous young people who have moved back and are very supportive of the Cylch and Welsh-medium provision. However, non-Welsh speaking families have also moved and we are ensuring that everyone receives a welcome leaflet at the Cylch."
“Ers i ni fod yn llwyddiannus wrth ymgeisio am y grant a gallu prynu’r adnoddau a gwneud y gwaith marchnata, rydym wedi medru denu chwech o blant newydd i’r Cylch sy’n gynnydd da mewn ardal mor wledig. Mae 11 plentyn wedi parhau yn gyson ar ein llyfrau ac rydym yn anelu at gynyddu’r nifer eleni eto, wrth ddefnyddio’r adnoddau pan fydd teuluoedd newydd yn symud i’r ardal. Mae’n ddiddorol nodi ein bod wedi gweld nifer o deuluoedd yn symud i’r ardal yn ystod cyfnod y pandemig, gyda nifer ohonynt yn bobl ifanc cynhenid sydd wedi symud yn ôl ac yn gefnogol iawn i’r Cylch ac i ddarpariaeth cyfrwng Cymraeg. Er hynny, mae teuluoedd di-Gymraeg wedi symud hefyd ac rydym yn sicrhau fod pawb yn derbyn taflen groeso wrth y Cylch.”
Marketing
(Banners to market the Cylch Meithrin)
"Cylch Meithrin numbers have increased. More people are contacting the Cylch directly because of contact details on the banner. The flag also makes it easier for people to find us because the building is placed between two other large buildings."
(Resources to market the Cylch and kits for parents)
"We used a local business to get posters, flyers and business cards to make it professional. This product has helped advertise the Cylch and has had a positive impact as children living outside the local area attend the Cylch. Ti a Fi Parents like the Welsh learning aids and many want to learn Welsh."
(Adnoddau i farchnata’r Cylch)
“We spent most of the grant on A5 flyers advertising basic information about the Cylch including the times of our Ti a Fi and Cylch Meithrin groups. We have also used it over the year to pay for the printing of individual posters to advertise various fundraising events including an autumn treasure hunt, film morning, sponsored scoot, a quiz night and several others.
We have given out the flyers in as many local shops, cafés and public spaces as possible. This has meant that our parent and toddler group has steadily grown in numbers so that instead of taking on average £10-£15 a session we are taking £30-£40 a session which has greatly helped in covering our costs and keeping the Cylch viable. This has in turn meant that we have sufficient numbers to keep the Cylch Meithrin group running as we are reaching a much wider audience than previously. We are very grateful to Cronfa Glyndŵr for the help we received at such a difficult time which has without doubt contributed to the continuation of the Cylch Meithrin. Diolch yn fawr!”
(Cynhyrchu posteri, taflenni a chardiau busnes i hysbysebu’r Cylch)
“Dosbarthwyd y taflenni ar hyd a lled yr ardal. Mae’r Cylch wedi elwa yn fawr, mae ymwybyddiaeth o’r Cylch wedi codi a llawer o rieni wedi dangos diddordeb. Mae’n bleser nodi bod nifer y plant sy’n mynychu’r Cylch wedi cynyddu tipyn ac mae’r Cylch ar hyn o bryd yn y broses o benodi aelod ychwanegol o staff i alluogi derbyn mwy o blant i’r sesiynau. Mae’n sicr bod y taflenni a’r cardiau wedi bod yn gyfrwng gwerthfawr iawn tuag at hysbysebu’r Cylch ac ni fyddai modd iddynt fod wedi gwneud hynny heb y grant a gafwyd gan Gronfa Glyndwr felly diolch yn fawr iawn.”
(Cynhyrchu adnoddau i farchnata’r Cylch sef, baner, taflenni a graffeg ar gyfer bws mini)
“We benefitted from the grant as we were able to promote the nursery through the flyers in our local area and from this we were able to increase the amount of Flying Start places due to the demand of children/parents wanting their child to attend a Welsh medium setting. The graphics for the mini bus allowed people to see that not only are we a Welsh medium setting but we also have the use of Wrap around available. Our Wrap around plays a big part of our service as it allows us to transport children to and from other schools as well as home. The graphics made our mini bus more presentable and ensured the Cylch’s logo was made visible.”
(Cynhyrchu baner, taflenni a phosteri i farchnata’r Cylch)
“Roedd y Cylch wedi elwa o ddeunydd proffesiynol, deniadol ar gyfer marchnata’r ddarpariaeth. Dosbarthwyd taflenni yn yr ardal leol ac i ysgolion lleol. Mae’r faner wedi bod yn help i godi ymwybyddiaeth pobl lleol – cafwyd ymholiadau gan bobl oedd yn byw yn agos i’r cylch ond oedd heb sylweddoli o’r blaen bod y cylch yno.
Cododd niferoedd y Cylch rhwng Hydref 2016 a Mehefin 2017 o 4 plentyn i 13 plentyn. Mae’r Ti a Fi hefyd yn gwneud yn dda gyda 9 o deuluoedd yn mynychu. Rydym yn bwriadu hysbysebu a marchnata’r cylch yn yr un modd yn ystod y misoedd nesaf gan bod taflenni gyda ni o hyd, er mwyn ceisio codi’r niferoedd eto. Diolch yn fawr i chi am eich cyfraniad, heb grant o’r fath ni fyddai’r Cylch wedi gallu cynhyrchu deunydd marchnata o safon uchel.”
(Cynhyrchu pecynnau ar gyfer rhieni)
“The grant has helped us enormously to promote our work in the Cylch Meithrin. This autumn term, we have been full every morning with 32 children on the register and are allowed 16 children per session. Most autumn terms, in the past, we have struggled with numbers but are full now until end of summer term 2018 and have a waiting list. I have enclosed a copy of the parent pack given to Parents. We also were able to have printed text to accompany displays put up to enhance the childrens’ play and learning experiences in the Cylch Meithrin.”
Adnoddau
(Ysgol Gynradd - Offer ar gyfer gweithdai coginio)
“Mae cael yr offer yma i’r plant wedi hwyluso’r sesiynau coginio’n fawr iawn. Maent yn dysgu geirfa a brawddegau newydd ac yn cael mwynhâd ar yr un pryd.”
(Ysgol Gynradd - Prosiect darllen cilyddol)
“Bu’r grant o gymorth mawr wrth fynd ati i geisio hybu ymwybyddiaeth y plant o Chwedlau Cymraeg. Roedd medru prynu fersiwn o‘r chwedlau a oedd yn gallu ateb anghenion pob grwp oedran o fudd mawr. Yn ychwanegol, roedd medru prynu chwaraewyr CD, storiau ar CD a chlustffonau yn werthfawr tu hwnt. Roedd hyn yn golygu bod grwpiau bach yn gallu elwa o wrando ar chwedlau safonol fel tasg annibynnol.
Roedd defnyddio’r cardiau clebran yn ffordd effeithiol iawn o fedru datblygu cystrawen naturiol. Yn naturiol, mae’r plant yn hoff iawn o wasgu botymau, ac wrth wasgu botymau rhain roedden nhw’n gallu clywed patrwm, neu ymadrodd Cymraeg ar gyfer defnyddio yn eu chwarae rol. Erbyn hyn, mae’r plant yn gallu recordio eu hunain yn dweud ymadrodd neu idiom/ patrwm sydd angen cofio ar gyfer tasgau llafar.
Mae’r holl offer wedi bod o fudd mawr wrth fynd ati i gyflawni’r syniad gwreiddiol, ond mae wedi cael effaith ar waith llafar y plant yn gyffredinol. Nawr bod yr offer yma gennym ar lawr y dosbarth, rydym yn gallu parhau i adeiladu ar waith y llynedd. Rydym yn dal i ddewis chwedl bob tymor yn ogystal â darllen chwedlau yn anffurfiol hefyd.”
Cylch Meithrin Llanfair Caereinion
“Mae’r deunyddiau newydd yn cael eu defnyddio yn ddyddiol gan y plant sy’n mynychu’r Cylch ac maent wrth eu bodd gyda nhw. Mae’r deunyddiau mwy addysgiadol megis pecynnau i ddysgu ysgrifennu llythrennau’r wyddor yn cael eu defnyddio yn sesiwn bore pan fydd y plant 3 oed a hŷn yn y cylch a’r jig-sô’s a DVD’s a’r llyfrau yn cael eu defnyddio yn y prynhawn hefyd pan fydd plant 2 oed a hŷn yn gallu mynychu. Mae digon o ddeunyddiau a theganau yn y cylch rwan fel bod modd newid y llyfrau yn wythnosol a’r plant ddim yn diflasu ar yr un rhai bob tro. Cawson arolygiad Estyn yn ddiweddar ac roedd yr adborth am yr adnoddau a llyfrau sydd ar gael yn y cylch yn bositif.
Unwaith eto, diolch o galon am y grant yma gan Gronfa Glyndwr, mae wedi cael effaith bositif iawn ar ddatblygiad plant bach Cylch Meithrin Llanfair Caereinion.“
Cylch Meithrin Cerrigydrudion
“Defnyddiwyd yr arian grant i brynu adnoddau hanfodol megis paent, glud, papur, llyfrau lloffion ar gyfer gweithgareddau celf wythnosol, costau printio, adnoddau chwarae (anifeiliaid yr arctig, jyngla deinosoriaid, llestri te adnabod lliwiau ayyb), prynu llyfrau a gwella yr ardal ddarllen ac adnoddau addysgol.
Yn ogystal a gweithgareddau codi arian y Cylch, bu’r grant gan Gronfa Glyndwr o gymorth mawr ini tra’n mynd trwy’r cyfnod anodd yma. Rydym yn falch iawn o fedru datgan bod y Cylch yn mynd o nerth i nerth gyda criw gwych o blant yn mynychu ac yn parhau i gyflogi 3 aelod o staff. Bellach mae’r criw oedd yn 2 a hanner i 3 oed llynedd yn medru elwa o Gynllun Gofal 30 awr sydd o gymorth mawr i sicrhau bod y Cylch yn gynaliadwy. Mae’r adnoddau brynwyd gyda’r arian grant wedi llwyddo i roi y cyfleoedd gorau i blant yr ardal ddatblygu drwy chwarae a chymdeithasu yn yr iaith Gymraeg. Diolch o galon i’r Gronfa am y gefnogaeth yn ystod y cyfnod anodd llynedd.”
Cylch Meithrin Clocaenog
“We are pleased to say that the grant of £300 received by Cylch Meithrin Clocaenog has been key in the development and growth of cylch meithrin clocaenog over the past 12 months. The essential supplies we purchased enabled us to provide education through the medium of Welsh, which is of a high standard, flexible and affordable to parents and guardians. The financial support we receive from Cronfa Glyndwr was used for the benefit of the children to enhance their education so that they may reach their full potential. We are pleased to say that we have increased our numbers of children/families using Cylch Clocaenog over the past 12 months as we started with around 9 or 10 children using the service and we currently have 14 children plus several more enquiries from other families who are interested in their children attending Cylch Clocaenog after Easter. This is amazing news and means we have seen at least 40% increase in numbers and income we receive. As a committee we would like to thank Cronfa Glyndwr for the financial support, we are very pleased with the growth and quality of care/education we were able to offer. We hope Cronfa Glyndwr are also satisfied by the difference made and thank you for your support.”
Ysgol Pen Barras, Rhuthun
“Hoffwn ddiolch o galon i chi am y grant dderbyniwyd gennych tuag at dŷ bach twt y babanod. Amgaeaf luniau o’r tai bach twt ar waith gyda’r plant wedi gwisgo i fyny yn yr ardal chwarae rôl. Mae nhw’n adnodd hynod o werthfawr i ni fel ysgol.”
Cylch Meithrin Cynwyd
“Llynedd, derbyniodd Cylch Meithrin Cynwyd grant o £400 ganddoch i brynu byrddau a chadeiriau newydd ar gyfer ein lleoliad newydd. Hoffwn adrodd yn ôl atoch am y datblygiadau sydd wedi bod o fewn y Cylch dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf.
Ers derbyn eich grant a newid lleoliad y Cylch Meithrin, rydym wedi mynd o nerth i nerth. Erbyn hyn, rydym yn cynnig gofal yn ddyddiol rhwng 08:00 – 18:00 i blant rhwng 2-12 mlwydd oed. Rydym wedi sefydlu clwb ar ôl ysgol yn ogystal â chlwb brecwast, a mae ein sesiynau canol wythnos yn boblogaidd gyda thri o’r pum niwrnod yn llawn yn wythnosol.
Carwn ddiolch i chi eto am eich cyfraniad hael tuag at ein prosiect – mae’r byrddau a chadeiriau a brynwyd gyda’r arian yn cael eu defnyddio yn ddyddiol gan y plant.”
Gŵyl Hanes Cymru i Blant
“Roedd y grant yn gyfraniad tuag at gynhyrchu sioe newydd a gafodd ei llwyfannu am wythnos gyfan yn Amgueddfa Wlan Cymru yn Drefach Felindre, fel rhan o Gŵyl Hanes Cymru I Blant 2018. Roedd sgript eisoes wedi’i gyflwyno fel rhan o gynllun datblygu awduron ifanc, ac felly roedd angen i’r ŵyl ddod o hyd i tua £4,000 i gynhyrchu’r sioe. Cafwyd cymorth mewn da gan Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru I gyfarwyddo’r sioe, a cafwyd grant o £1,500 hefyd gan Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin i ariannu’r actor am y cyfnod ymarfer ynghyd ag archebu props. Cafwyd £200 gan gwmni Castell Howell, a defnyddiwyd yr arian hwnnw ynghyd â grant Cronfa Glyndŵr i gomisiynu creu gwisg arbennig i Arglwydes Llanofer – gwisg Gymreig ysblennydd o frethyn a brynwyd o’r amgueddfa.
Yn ystod yr wythnos o berfformiadau, daeth 10 o ysgolion yr ardal i’r amgueddfa i weld y sioe - tua 400 o blant.
Mae’r ŵyl wedi elwa o’r grant, gan fod gennym sioe fydd ar gael i’r ŵyl am flynyddoedd eto i ddod, gan addysgu cenedlaethu o blant, a’r bwriad fydd atgyfodi’r sioe yn flynyddol, i’w pherfformio yn yr amgueddfa wlân yn Nrefach Felindre ynghyd â lleoliadau perthnasol eraill ar hyd a lled Cymru.”
Cylch Meithrin Yr Eglwys Newydd
“Mae arweinwyr ein Cylch wedi adnabod yr offer byddai’n datblygu gallu, gwybodaeth a sgiliau’r plant yn y maes technoleg gwybodaeth mewn modd sy’n hwyl ac yn gyffrous. Ers derbyn y adnoddau newydd, mae’n amlwg bod hwn wedi llwyddo. Mae’r plant i gyd wedi tyfu mewn hyder ac annibyniaeth gan defnyddio’r holl bethau a mae staff y cylch wedi darganfod sawl ffordd arloesol i’w defnyddio. Hefyd, mae’n golygu bod y cylch yn barod am y newidiadau gyda’r cwricwlwm newydd yn ystod y blynyddoedd nesaf.
Rydym ni fel Cylch yn ddiolchgar iawn o’r cyfraniad gan Gronfa Glyndwr sydd wedi gwneud gwahaniaeth cadarnhaol i blant a staff Cylch Meithrin yr Eglwys Newydd.”

“Hoffwn ddiolch o galon i chi am y grant dderbyniwyd gennych tuag at dŷ bach twt y babanod. Amgaeaf luniau o’r tai bach twt ar waith gyda’r plant wedi gwisgo i fyny yn yr ardal chwarae rôl. Mae nhw’n adnodd hynod o werthfawr i ni fel ysgol.”
